Young Adults in Global Mission
Looking for an adventure that connects your faith with the world?
Join Young Adults in Global Mission
The ELCA Young Adults in Global Mission (YAGM) program invites young adults to step out of their comfort zone and challenge themselves in a one-year international mission service and learning opportunity.
Young adults, ages 19-29, serve in an international program for a period of one year (11-12 months). Programs are available in Argentina/Uruguay, Jerusalem/West Bank, Madagascar, Malaysia, Mexico, Central/Eastern Europe, Southern Africa, and the United Kingdom. A country program coordinator facilitates the in-country logistics, makes arrangements for the work assignments and housing, and looks after stipend and meal allowances. Participants of the YAGM program intend to give a year of their time in service, as opposed to a typical career position. YAGM volunteers receive a monetary stipend that facilitates a simple lifestyle. This monthly allowance is not intended to be a salary or even an hourly wage. It is expected that YAGM volunteers will typically work full-time hours (35-40 hours/week) at their placement, with work and vacation schedules to be worked out with their placement facilitators.
The preferred application deadline is February 1. The final deadline is February 15.
As you offer yourself in service, you will also learn more about yourself, your relationship with God, and your place in God’s world. You will make friendships across culture and language that will change the way you look at the world. You will be a part of a group of young adults who are open to being transformed by your experiences, equipping you upon return to provide a global perspective on issues facing the church and society.
Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd is committed to this program and the youth within our community of faith. If a participant in this congregation is interested in serving as a YAGM, Good Shepherd will provide the $4,000 required from each participant.
