Sunday School at Good Shepherd
Why we do what we do?
GROW KIDS IN FAITH BY CONNECTING KIDS TO GOD.
Most, though not all, people at Good Shepherd begin their Christian walk as a young child when they are baptized. Their parents and sponsors bring them to the font, and these adults promise to:
- Bring the child to worship.
- Teach the Lord’s Prayer, the Creed, and the 10 Commandments.
- Place the Bible in the child’s hands.
- Provide for their instruction in the Christian faith.
All these promises are about connecting the child to God so that they might know God better. Sunday School has long used these promises to guide our work. As we help kids learn to worship, teach them how to read the Bible and pray, we’re modeling a life of faith and helping them identify God as the solid rock on which their life is built.
GROW KIDS IN FAITH BY CONNECTING KIDS TO EACH OTHER THROUGH JESUS CHRIST.
Part of what it means to be a follower of Jesus is to be part of the Christian community. We, as the family of God, learn together, play together, serve together, and grow together. In short, we share our lives with each other in Christ. That means an important part of Sunday School is getting to know each other and caring for one another!
GROW KIDS IN FAITH BY SHARING THE LOVE OF THE HOLY SPIRIT WITH ONE ANOTHER.
All of us have God-given talents and abilities. As kids grow older, they will discover how their greatest passions meet the world’s greatest needs. In Sunday School and other children’s ministries activities, we help kids develop a heart for serving in the world as an expression of their faith.
