This is a psalm of trust in God. The first half is an affirmation of faith and the second half, building on this affirmation of faith, is like a prayer, with the final verse an exclamation to us, “Wait for the LORD; be strong and let your heart take courage; wait for the LORD!”
This is a song that calls us to tell the story to the next generation – a story that speaks of God's power and the wonders God has done. Because of God's story, God should be praised.
We have a God that provides what we need, is present in our lives, and is actively moving in the world in which we live. This psalm speaks to the connection God desires from us and the honest and very real joy and contentment we can experience through that relationship.
