Performing Arts Ministry has become an essential thread in the fabric of what makes Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd so unique and valuable. The drama, music and dance that comes from our ministry provides church members and non-members from the surrounding communities opportunities to enjoy the comradery and artistic satisfaction of being involved in theater.
All events are freewill offering.
Contact Tor Johnson, Director of Performing Arts, for more information on any of the events listed here.
The Good Shepherd Follies
The Good Shepherd Follies offer an evening of musical theater songs, opera arias and several other genres of music for your listening pleasure. We invite you to their next performance on May 6. Come and enjoy fine dining on coffee and cookies in a candle lit atmosphere that would make Chanhassen envious.
Summer Musical Theater Camp
This camp has quickly become the go to place for theatrical fun and education for 1st through 8th graders. Not only do we provide an enriching experience for children, we also make it very affordable. We offer two camps every summer. We provide classes for kids from all over the Twin Cities in drama, dancing, singing, drumming, juggling and prop making. Our camps are punctuated by two performances at the end of each camp, showcasing a wide ranging medley of show tunes, plus drumming performances. Looking ahead, the dates for the 2017 camps are June 19 – 30 for kids going into 1st grade through kids going into 4th grade; and July 10-21 for kids going into 4th grade through kids going into 8th grade.
Summer Classical Comedy
The Summer Classical Comedy has become a “studio” showcase for members of our church and guests to hone their comedic timing and acting skills. On September 7, 8, and 9 our next shows will take place in Fellowship Hall, while, again, using candlelight, coffee and cookies to make the evening more enticing.
Annual Holiday Musical
Every December our Holiday Musical brings delight to hundreds of church members and visitors. Our Musical for 2016 was the beloved Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat. Past shows have included Annie, Willie Wonka, Oliver and Godspell, to name a few. All people are welcome to participate. Everyone has a part and no one is left out.
