Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd started a new offering for the community in the fall of 1995 entitled, "Over Coffee." Nearly every Thursday evening in the Months of October, November, January, February, and March a well known public person is present to share insights on areas of public life which affect all of us. Politicians, artists, musicians, authors, business persons, academics, educators, journalists, children and youth advocates, and people involved in media have spoken and responded to questions.

The series grew out of the congregation's attempt to offer something of value to the community. Focus groups were formed, consisting of members and non-members, to develop a program in which members of the Southwest Minneapolis and Suburban Communities could find common ground to explore matters of public interest. Their work led to the creation of the series in which community members could interact with people whose careers and concerns held general interest. It is motivated by the conviction that the church, as a public institution, provides a platform where all issues of human concern can be discussed.

Coffee is supplied by Caribou Coffee and bagels by Bruegger’s Bagels. There is no charge; donations are accepted.
