The Minneapolis Area Synod Assembly will be held Friday and Saturday at Lord of Life Lutheran Church in Ramsey under the theme, “I Will Pour Out My Spirit.” The assembly
is an annual gathering that carries out the business of the synod and joins leaders of congregations together for learning and fellowship. The voting members from Good
Shepherd are Allan Campbell, Annika Ronning, Mia Opsahl, Pastor Samuelson and Pastor Jacobson. Rev. Musa Panti Filibus, archbishop of the Lutheran Church of Christ in Nigeria and president of the Lutheran World Federation, will be a special guest. Presiding Bishop Elizabeth Eaton will represent the ELCA. The election of the bishop is also on the agenda this year, our own Beth Helgen chairing the Bishop’s Election Committee.
At the assembly each year, Lutheran Social Service (LSS) awards the Servant of Christ Award to a congregation in the synod who has been recognized as a leader in social ministry and social justice in their community, has a connection to LSS services in their area and faithfully provides financial support for the ministry of Lutheran Social Service.
This year, Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd will receive this award from LSS. Pastors Samuelson and Jacobson will accept the award on behalf of the congregation at the
assembly. This Sunday, Mike Anderson, LSS Senior Director of Resource Development and Innovation, will present the award at worship.
We are honored and humbled at Good Shepherd to be recognized in this way as we do God’s work in our place, serving others as the hands of Christ.
