Pastor Elise Pokel
Grace and peace to you from our gracious God, Jesus our Brother, and the Holy Spirit, our wily and wonderful Sister.
Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd is an incredibly special place. The Spirit is moving here! We have wonderful ministries to jump into, a fantastic array of musical opportunities, and an openness to new ways of loving and serving our neighbors - locally and globally. We love and welcome folks of all ages and backgrounds. My door is always open for conversation and fellowship! As associate pastor, I will be focusing on children, youth, and family ministries, visitation, and pastoral care.
A little about me
I was born and raised in Fargo, ND. I attended Concordia College and got a degree in Religion and History. I thought after college I would do interfaith organizing (and still would love to do more of it), but I ended up working in a pastry shop! I do sometimes miss eating cake tops all day. I ended up going to Luther Seminary after some major life events and discernment in 2013. I was ordained in 2017 and served two churches in rural Minnesota for two years. I was honored to be brought back on-board at Good Shepherd in July of 2019. I served this fabulous church as a pastoral intern from 2015-2016.
In the midst of all of that, I got married to the funniest person on earth. My husband, Andy Pokel, graduated from St. Olaf in 2009 with a degree in Music Education. He toured with the Missoula Children's Theater for several years, taught in Houston, Minneapolis, Fertile-Belrami rural school district, and is back in Minneapolis at Prodeo Academy!
We love cheering on the Packers (sorry, Karl), listening to podcasts (especially trivia and true crime) , improv comedy, dancing, reading (non-fiction, memoirs, poetry, Bible-related goodies), and napping.
I can't wait to get to know you better and explore a life of faith together.
